Winch Design

St James’s Retreat

A lover of art and yachts commissioned Winch Design to create a bright, fresh and individual interior in London’s St James’s. A complete interior rebuild for the 90 sq m (970 sq ft) space was undertaken, refashioning the layout to take full advantage of the natural light.

The client requested the space should be both liveable and characterful, while doubling up as an informal office, designed for doing business at ease. A distinctive and colourful design was developed, expressive of British elegance, charm and eccentricity, and the resultant space is warm and inviting, as opposed to overly formal or stuffy.

Sandwiched between the leafy expanses of St James’s and Green Park, the apartment is suitably light, bright and uplifting, strewn with original artworks and vibrantly printed rugs. During summer, large windows and strategically positioned mirrors allow light to pour in, while in winter open fireplaces, liberally scattered lampshades, custom-designed wooden furniture and curtains made of sumptuous fabrics lend the apartment a cosy feel.
